The LADWP heat pump rebate, explained
Updated October 2026 (checked against ladwp.com on Oct 14, 2026)
If your electric bill comes from LADWP, the utility will pay you back part of a new heat pump. It's real money. On a qualifying 3 ton ducted system it's $3,000 to $3,750. But the numbers floating around online don't agree with each other, so here's what LADWP's own page says right now.
How much
Per ton of system size, for equipment bought and installed on or after November 1, 2025. The amount goes up with efficiency.
Ducted (central split and packaged)
| Efficiency | Rebate |
|---|---|
| 15.2+ SEER2 / 7.7+ HSPF2 | $1,000 per ton |
| 16+ SEER2 / 8+ HSPF2 | $1,050 per ton |
| 16.9+ SEER2 / 8.1+ HSPF2 | $1,100 per ton |
| 17.8+ SEER2 / 8.1+ HSPF2 | $1,150 per ton |
| 18.7+ SEER2 / 8.5+ HSPF2 | $1,200 per ton |
| 19.6+ SEER2 / 8.9+ HSPF2 | $1,250 per ton |

Who qualifies
- You are an LADWP residential customer with active electric service at the home.
- The heat pump is at least 15.2 SEER2 and 7.7 HSPF2. Not every heat pump makes that cut, so ask which options on your quote qualify.
- Not eligible: new construction, ADUs, and through-the-wall (PTHP) units.
How to apply
When your install is done and the permit is finaled, ask us for the invoice, the AHRI certificate and the permit and we'll send them over.
- You apply, not the contractor. Online through your LADWP account, or by mail.
- Apply after the system is bought AND installed, and within 12 months of the purchase date.
- You need: the paid itemized invoice with the make and model, the AHRI certificate for the matched system, and the final approved building permit.
- LADWP may inspect the install before it pays.
Things to know before you count on it
- Funding is limited and first come, first served. LADWP says rebates are not guaranteed.
- The federal heat pump tax credit ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025.
- Not on LADWP? Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena run their own utilities, and SCE covers most of Ventura County and the rest of our area. Their programs are different. Ask us what applies at your address.
Questions people ask
Does the contractor file the LADWP rebate for me?
No. The homeowner applies, online or by mail. The contractor supplies the paperwork: the itemized invoice, the AHRI certificate and the final permit.
Is the rebate taken off your price?
No. Our posted prices are before any rebate. LADWP pays the rebate to you after you apply.
Does every heat pump qualify?
No. It has to be at least 15.2 SEER2 and 7.7 HSPF2. Ask which options on your quote qualify before you pick one.
