What Sylmar's climate means for your system

On a hot day in Sylmar, your AC has to hold the house cool against 97°F outside. That's the number HVAC sizing uses here, and it's a lot hotter than the coast. Get the size right. Too small and it runs all afternoon without catching up. Too big and it cycles on and off and never pulls the humidity out.

Winter design here is 40°F. A modern heat pump handles that without trouble, which is why we push heat pumps for most Sylmar homes.

Permits and rebates

Replacing a system needs a permit and a city inspection. Sylmar is part of the City of Los Angeles, so permits go through LADBS. The permit fee isn't in our installed prices; it's quoted separately.

Sylmar is on LADWP, and LADWP is paying real money for heat pumps right now: $1,000 to $1,250 per ton for a ducted system and $1,500 to $2,500 per ton for ductless, depending on the efficiency, on equipment bought and installed on or after Nov 1, 2025. It has to be at least 15.2 SEER2 and 7.7 HSPF2, so not every heat pump qualifies. On a qualifying 3 ton ducted system that's $3,000 to $3,750 back. How the rebate works. Funding is limited and first come, first served, so check the LADWP rebate page or ask us when you book.
